Yes, the Japanese invaded Manchuria in '31, but they did not invade CHINA until '37. Manchuria was not considered to be part of the Republic of China. Here's a little timeline of WWII from UV, WWII Timeline. Look closely at the dates...Japanese invasion of China begins in 1937.

I also put in a ;), but you conveniently forgot that one. And yes Canada does relate to me, I have many relatives that live in Calgary and British Columbia and I've been there numerous time.
